Fort Collins – History

Starting in 1862, modern-day inhabitants used the Fort Collins region as a camp to safeguard Overland Trail travellers. Sadly, a flood destroyed the original Camp Collins, forcing soldiers to relocate to higher ground in what is now Old Town. The camp had been abandoned entirely just five years after it had been built.

A few enterprises were constructed on the site of the former Camp Collins during the course of the following few years. The Colorado Central Railroad passed through the town in 1877, bringing with it more people and commercial establishments.

Things To Do In Fort Collins

Outdoor Recreation – Near Fort Collins, to the west, is the Roosevelt National Forest, which has a large number of campgrounds and backcountry camping options. Just head west on Highway 14 out of town.

Fishing – After passing Fort Collins, the Cache La Poudre River travels east from its starting point close to Rocky Mountain National Park. This river is world-class and has several places to fish. Boating and fishing are allowed on this sizable lake thanks to Horsetooth Reservoir.

Trails & Hikes In Fort Collins

Hike – There are several lovely hikes in Lory State Park. There are more than 20 miles of multi-use paths there. They also provide hikes to remote locations. There are many wonderful hiking paths near Horsetooth Reservoir. On the south bay, there is an information centre and an admission fee.
